About Temvo

Temvo is a small, independently built daily game about one narrow question: how well do you actually know how long a second is?

Where it came from

It started with the oldest timing game there is, the one where you start a stopwatch and try to stop it on a round number. Everyone who has held a phone has played some version of it. What makes it interesting isn't the stopwatch, it's the discovery that you are much worse at it than you assume, and that you get noticeably better within a few dozen attempts.

That gap between how good people think they are and how good they are is the whole game. Temvo grew out of it into five disciplines, because “a sense of time” turns out not to be one skill. Judging a duration after the fact, producing one on demand, copying one you just heard, and holding a beat are related but genuinely different, and most people are visibly better at some than others.

The rules it's built on

Who makes it

Temvo is made and maintained by one independent developer, not a studio or a publisher. It's built as a web app so it runs anywhere without an install, and it's updated in small steps: a new mode, a better scoring curve, a rewritten explanation when players keep asking the same question.

How it stays free

There is no paywall, no premium tier, and nothing to buy. The site is supported by advertising, which pays for the domain, the hosting, and the time to keep building it. Ads are kept off the play surface itself, because an ad next to a button you're about to tap under time pressure is a bad experience and an accidental click waiting to happen. What we collect, and what our advertising partners collect, is set out on the Privacy page.

What's next

A live multiplayer mode, where everyone faces the same round at the same moment and the closest guess wins, and a leaderboard for players who want their runs recorded rather than kept on their own device. Both are in progress rather than promised for a date.
